In perfect spring weather, representatives of \u00dadar\u00e1s na Gaeltachta, Galway County Council and F\u00e1ilte Ireland were able to see and hear about the outstanding natural, cultural and built heritage in the geopark \u2013 including its geological features of international significance.<\/p>\n<p>Appropriately, the tour began in <a href=\"https:\/\/joycecountrygeoparkproject.ie\/de\/attractions\/cong-town\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cong<\/a> on the border between counties Galway and Mayo \u2013 two of the collaborating state partners. A stop in <a href=\"https:\/\/joycecountrygeoparkproject.ie\/de\/attractions\/clonbur\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Clonbur<\/a> and chat with two local businesses followed \u00ad \u2013 Tom\u00e1s Burke (<a href=\"https:\/\/burkesclonbur.ie\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">JJ Burkes bar\/restaurant<\/a>), and Johnny Coyne (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.loughcorribadventures.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lough Corrib Adventures<\/a>, for Corrib sailing and kayaking) \u2013 then on to <a href=\"https:\/\/joycecountrygeoparkproject.ie\/de\/attractions\/towns-corr-na-mona\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Corr na M\u00f3na<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/joycecountrygeoparkproject.ie\/de\/attractions\/lough-nafooey-finny\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Finny<\/a>. A real \u201cwow moment\u201d was on the hill road overlooking Lough Nafooey, where it is hoped an info panel will soon be erected describing the unique geological history of the valley and its surrounding mountains \u2013 including volcanic activity stretching back 490 million years (more info <a href=\"https:\/\/joycecountrygeoparkproject.ie\/de\/attractions\/geosites\/arc-volcanism-at-finny\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a>). Participants then gazed at <a href=\"https:\/\/joycecountrygeoparkproject.ie\/de\/attractions\/geosites\/the-deircs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the Deircs<\/a> \u2013 a series of corrie lakes feeding into the Owenbrin valley separating the Partry Mountains and Maumtrasna \u2013 from the carpark of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.loughmaskdistillery.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lough Mask Distillery<\/a>, a newish start-up receiving support from \u00dadar\u00e1s na Gaeltachta. A brief stop in <a href=\"https:\/\/joycecountrygeoparkproject.ie\/de\/attractions\/tourmakeady-tuar-mhic-eadaigh\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tourmakeady<\/a> included viewing the newly energy-retrofitted Geopark office, hot drinks from the pop-up <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/caifeglas\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Caife Glas<\/a>, and meet and greet from the local Coiste Pobal. Cornmarket square in the heart of <a href=\"https:\/\/joycecountrygeoparkproject.ie\/de\/attractions\/attractions-ballinrobe\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ballinrobe<\/a> was the final stop. Representatives of Ballinrobe\u2019s community organisations informed how both the Town Hall development and the Geopark will help the town revive and thrive in the coming years.<\/p>\n<p>On return to Cong, the \u00dadar\u00e1s na Gaeltachta ceo Tom\u00e1s \u00d3 S\u00edoch\u00e1in and colleagues launched the Geopark Management Master Plan 2022-2028, which sets-out ideas, priorities and actions on tourism-led community and business development in the geopark.
