class=\"fontstyle0\">One of the major assets of our Geopark is its <\/span><span class=\"fontstyle0\">geodiversity (see more info <a href=\"https:\/\/joycecountrygeoparkproject.ie\/zh\/the-geological-story\/geological-story-of-the-geopark-region\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u5728\u6b64<\/a>). This diversity of bedrock <\/span><span class=\"fontstyle0\">that attracts regular geological fieldtrips from universities tells the story of the opening and closing <\/span><span class=\"fontstyle0\">of the ancient Iapetus Ocean. And in the Coillte run <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coillte.ie\/site\/tourmakeady\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tourmakeady woods<\/a>, you can now get a sense of this geodiversity in a simple 900m walk among the trees, by the river Glensaul and towards the glorious waterfall. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"fontstyle0\">\u6211\u4eec\u7684\u5730\u8d28\u516c\u56ed<\/span><span class=\"fontstyle0\">\u00a0can boast to include bedrocks from all types spanning a geological story of 700 million years<\/span><span class=\"fontstyle0\">. The history of the opening and closing of the Iapetus Ocean is illustrated\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"fontstyle0\">in the Dalradian Supergroup with its range of metasedimentary rocks (quartzites, schists, marbles) <\/span><span class=\"fontstyle0\">describing the earlier deposition during the opening phase in the Neoproterozoic and their later <\/span><span class=\"fontstyle0\">metamorphism during the closing phase in the Ordovician. The arc volcanism of the early Ordovician <\/span><span class=\"fontstyle0\">associated with the closing phase is represented by the Lough Nafooey group of pillow basalt and <\/span><span class=\"fontstyle0\">the Tourmakeady succession that includes rhyolite. The South Mayo basin contains a range <\/span><span class=\"fontstyle0\">of sedimentary rocks from the Ordovician and Silurian from conglomerates to sandstones<\/span><span class=\"fontstyle0\">. Carboniferous limestone is also extensively present to the east of the Western Lakes and <\/span><span class=\"fontstyle0\">a number of magmatic intrusions are also present that include the extensive Galway granite <\/span><span class=\"fontstyle0\">batholith. These lithologies are clearly distinct and very useful to illustrate the variety of rocks on the <\/span><span class=\"fontstyle0\">planet and of the processes that form them. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>Each boulders, of about 1m<sup>3<\/sup>, were sourced from local quarries or donated by local landowners and placed in reverse chronology, going back in time as you walk towards the waterfall. And they each have a simple panel describing the specific features of the rock and how they formed. The walk was designed in partnership with Coillte and the local community of Tourmakeady and with expert help from Dr Brian McConnell and Dr Nancy Riggs.<\/p>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"wpb_column vc_column_container vc_col-sm-12 liquid-column-6a3f14dea2449\"><div class=\"vc_column-inner\"><div class=\"wpb_wrapper\"   ><div class=\"wpb_wrapper-inner\"><style>.ld_spacer_6a3f14dea2490{height:75px;}<\/style>\n<div class=\"ld-empty-space
