The communities of the Joyce Country and Western Lakes Geopark region are organising a weekend of celebration to mark our official ratification as a UNESCO Global Geopark on Thursday 23rd April

Thursday 23rd April
- 5-7pm, CDS Teo, Cloghbrack and Corr na Móna: Community organisations, refreshments.
- Launch of Community showcase video
- 8-10pm, Angler’s Rest, Headford: Local showcase of Choir, Drums, Headford Lace.
Friday 24th April
- 2-4pm, The Larches, Fionnaithe/Finny: Storytelling, Music and local crafts
- 6-9pm, Crossroads community centre, Cong: Communities and stakeholders showcase with local food
Saturday 25th April
- 9:30-11am, Parkrun venues, Oughterard, Tourmakeady and Clonbur
- 10:15am-12pm, Ballinrobe: Historical guided tour of the town. Departure from Parish centre car park
- 10.30am-2pm, An Fhairche/Clonbur: Flag ceremony, music and dance, guided walk in the village and woods
- 10am-3pm, Sullivans Grocers Oughterard: Geofest Makers’ Market. Collection of Makers & Creative businesses. Showcasing handmade and home grown locally!
- 2-5pm, Halla pobail, Tuar Mhic Éadaigh/Tourmakeady: Music and heritage
- 2-5pm, Oughterard Courthourse(H91CC96): Geowalk followed by Harp recital and art and heritage artefacts exhibition
- 6-8pm, The Neale: Heritage walk led by scéalaí Joe Greaney. Departure from Church
Sunday 26th April
- 12noon-3pm, Oughterard Community centre (H91XA8R): Community showcase
Saturday 2nd May
- 2-4pm, Scíobol, Ballintubber (beside Crave at The Cottage) : Family fun day
Further events and festivals will take place later on in the year in the Geopark’s communities and will be further occasions to celebrate the UNESCO Global Geopark ratification.
